Yoga Teacher Training in Berlin: How to Choose the Right One
Why Berlin is a good place to train
Berlin has more yoga studios per square kilometre than almost any city in Europe, and that density is good news if you want to become a teacher. It means international teachers come through the city all year, it means you can practise five different styles in a single week, and it means that once you are certified there is a real teaching scene to step into. At SHA-LA Academy we run trainings all year round across our studios in Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg, from the full 200-hour multi-style yoga teacher training to short, specialised intensives.
200-hour, 100-hour or a weekend intensive?
The 200-hour yoga teacher training is the international standard. It is what Yoga Alliance registers as RYT-200, it is what most studios ask for when you apply to teach, and it is the training to choose if you want the full foundation: asana, anatomy, philosophy, teaching methodology, sequencing and plenty of practice teaching. At SHA-LA the 200H Multi-Style Yoga Teacher Training runs over several months (the next one starts in February 2027), so you can keep your job and your life while you train.
A 100-hour advanced training is for people who already hold a 200-hour certificate and want to go deeper: refined sequencing, hands-on assists, teaching philosophy, and the confidence to teach stronger classes.
Shorter intensives, usually 15 to 50 hours over a weekend or a long week, are the best way to specialise or to find out whether teaching is for you at all. Our Academy runs 50-hour Yin Yoga and Rocket teacher trainings, a 25-hour backbending method training, a 15-hour handstand training and 20-hour immersions on flexibility, private teaching and women's health. Many of them count as Yoga Alliance continuing education (YACEP).
What a good training in Berlin should include
Ask every training these questions before you book. Who exactly is teaching, and how many hours will they be in the room? Trainings led by one or two experienced teachers with guest faculty for anatomy or philosophy tend to be more coherent than trainings with a different face every day. How big is the group? Fifteen to twenty-five people is a good size: enough energy, small enough that your teacher knows your name. How much practice teaching will you do? You cannot learn to teach by watching. What happens after? Look for mentoring, assisting opportunities and a community you can keep practising with.
What it costs
In Berlin a 200-hour yoga teacher training costs between roughly 2,500 and 4,000 euros. At SHA-LA the 200H training is 3,500 euros, with an early-bird price of 2,900 euros, and we offer instalment plans. Weekend intensives range from about 250 to 950 euros depending on length. If a training is dramatically cheaper than that, ask what has been cut.
Do you need to be advanced to start?
No. You need a regular practice, typically a year or two of classes, and the curiosity to understand what you are doing. Many of our trainees have no plan to teach at all; they come to deepen their own practice, and the 200-hour training is one of the best ways to do that.
