YOGA NIDRA IN BERLIN — GUIDED YOGIC SLEEP, RESTORATIVE YOGA AND RED LIGHT RECOVERY AT SHA-LA WATERFRONT AND SHA-LA PRENZLAUER BERG. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED, EVER.
ABOUT
YOGA NIDRA: DEEP REST, FULLY AWAKE
Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a guided meditation practised lying down. The teacher leads you through the body, the breath, sensations and images while you hover between waking and sleeping. Thirty minutes of Yoga Nidra rests the body more deeply than a nap and leaves the mind unusually clear. It is the simplest practice on our schedule and one of the most powerful.
At SHA-LA we teach Yoga Nidra as a standalone class, at the end of Yin and Restorative sessions, and combined with sound and red light. It is also part of RECOVER for a reason: it is the practice that makes all the other work, on the mat and in the gym, actually land.

COMMUNITY
DOING NOTHING, PROPERLY
Most of us are terrible at resting. Yoga Nidra gives you a structure for it: a voice to follow, a body to scan, a breath to count, and permission to stop achieving for an hour. Many of our community come after a strength session or a strong flow to let the nervous system catch up.
Yoga Nidra is suitable for absolutely everyone, including people who do not practise yoga, people who cannot sit still to meditate and people who are pregnant or recovering from illness or injury.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Yoga Nidra the same as meditation?
It is a form of meditation, but you lie down, you are guided the whole time and there is nothing to concentrate on. People who find seated meditation hard often love Nidra.
Will I fall asleep?
Maybe, and that is fine. The practice works whether you stay awake or drift. With time you learn to rest in the space just before sleep.
How long is a session?
Standalone Yoga Nidra classes run 30 to 60 minutes. Sound and Nidra sessions and Restorative classes are usually 75 to 90 minutes.
Can I come if I have never done yoga?
Yes. There are no poses to know. You lie down, get comfortable and listen.
